Just Jess asked: My step grandmother gave me a ring on my 21st birthday that my grandfather (who raised me) gave to her for her engagement ring. It is BEAUTIFUL. The diamond is huge and the clarity is amazing. It sparkles like nothing i’ve ever seen. Its dollar value is sure to be a lot… but its the sentimental value that I’m concerned about.
This ring was lost for over a month and was just found last night. My fiance re-proposed in the kitchen last night with the found ring. We just went this past wednesday to start looking at new ones because I was sure we were never going to find this one.
I have kept this ring in a jewelry box since I got it over a year ago because it does not fit! My fingers are too chubby :/ My grandma had VERY skinny fingers.
We want to take the ring to get re-sized IMMEDIATELY so that I can wear it…but I’ve got such a terrible fear that the jewelry store will switch the diamond or something terrible.
How can we be 100% sure that we get the same diamond/ring back??
My boyfriend said he wants to have it appraised before he has it re-sized…will doing so help to ensure that we get the same one back? Should we have it appraised at more than 1 jewelry store? I keep having nightmares that the jeweler is going to appraise it at less so that he can keep it and switch it out with a cheaper one.
I know NOTHING about jewelry. Any advice is really appreciated.
