A goldsmith is the occupation. I believe there are only a couple of schools that teach this specialty. I would contact one or two such persons in your area for advice. or go a search on yahoo or google under goldsmithing . Good luck.

How about jewelry designer? I think some of the schools that offer fashion degrees have classes in jewelry design. Some art departments offer it too.

Generally, that would be a jeweler. Generally, you apply to be an apprentice and learn the trade. If you wanted to go to college first (you are still going to need to take the program,) you could major in Chemistry, Art, or Engineering. A lot of schools have jewelry design courses, but they aren’t going to have everything you need.

I suggest that you go the the finest jeweller in your town, ask to talk to the manager and then ask him the question you have asked us. It’s not going to make him any money; but nobody can resist the compliment of a young person taking a sincere interest in his/her profession.

Well, there’s general jewelrymaking, but people who work with gold or silver are generally specialists, goldsmiths or silversmiths. People who cut diamonds are diamond cutters, though I think they only cut them, not set them into rings, etc.
You would want to major in fine arts, in jewelry making. You might even choose an art school rather than a university.
