We simply have wedding bands. Someday, I'd like to have a ring with a stone but diamonds have never impressed me. I love emeralds. Especially the look of emerald & platinum or emerald & white gold.

If you feel that strongly about blood diamonds, you will never be happy wearing one. Are there any semi-precious stones that you like? Garnet, Sapphire, Topaz, etc?

To con my future mother-in-law. We used a 1 c. cubic Z of good quality. it was $200. in 1972.. It took me 3 years to replace it with a real, larger diamond. The larger was my compromise with my wife, of now 37 years. And yes , it was worth it. And I would do it all over again.
The rock doesn't make the marriage ,its the time you spend making it work that counts. Never let a day go by that you don't say and mean I love you.

good post. plain bands are impeccable. eschewing a new diamond or new simulated diamond sounds like a good idea. if you like some kind of stone, antique jewelry is a nice option too, even a ring crafted from old jewelry. if you wish to have something custom-made, perhaps a ring with inlay of different colors of gold, etc.

don't worry about the flash factor regarding other people. get what you and your fiance sense is special.

Diamonds are a false value. The price is set by cartels much the same as oil. There is no scarcity, there is no lack of merchandise. A manufactured Diamond is in fact a better stone than a mined diamond and nobody died for it. The price does not reflect this fact because world diamond prices are controlled by the cartels. They sell rocks and become wealthy. You buy them for reasons I don't understand but I guess you think you need or want them. They are baubles nonetheless and as such are not necessary.

Diamonds are overrated and useless outside of industrial/technological uses. Go the cheap way and put the money toward something worthwhile.

Why do you need anything diamond looking?

Get what you want and screw tradition.

My husband and i don't even have bands. Eventually for our anniversary I hope that we can get tri-color bands, but in all seriousness, it's no big deal to us.

Real diamonds only. I don't care if they were the cause of genocide, in fact, it's even better if people died so that I could posess them. Like a war trophy. If I had my druthers I'd pay some guys in Iraq to send me teeth from people they killed so that I could make a necklace of them. Something big and garish like you see the rappers wear.
