    I would suggest looking at a good, high quality digital SLR, and in the case of taking pictures of jewelry, make sure the camera has the ability to do good macro shots. Macro allows you to get very close to the object that you are taking a picture of. The other reason for a high end digital SLR is that the pictures will need to be of very good quality, and you will probably need a 10 megapixel camera or better for magazine photography. Magazines are usually printed at 1200 dpi, so more megapixels mean less grainyness when the picture is enlarged for print.
