It could be close to the $25,000 mark. But don't get so excited yet... a jewelry appraisal says nothing. If you try to sell it to a private party, that's likely how you'll get the most money...but if you take it to a jeweler, they won't give even 1/3 of what it's worth, IF that.. Why? First, because jewelry generally has a 300% markup. Jewelers can purchase your $30,000 diamond for $10,000. Secondly, if your diamond is not certified either by the AGI or the GIA, it loses some value also. Plus, in all likelihood, they will probably melt the metal down and use it for something else, and use the stone in something else too, unless it's a ring that's a popular style that they can sell again. You should be able to get an appraisal from a reputable jewelry store from $75 to $100, which will tell you exactly what grade of diamond it is. Your best bet is truly to hold on to it, and if you don't like the style, have a jeweler re-build it for you, rather than try to sell it for what is "worth" on the appraisal and your emotional connection to it. You are one lucky chica. And don't believe that it could be between $150 - $450. That is absolute baloney and they don't know what they're talking about. That is a big diamond for a ring. That should easily be in the $10,000s. Most brand new 1 carat solitaires are at least $1500 - $2000 on the lower end! First of all, I would get it appraised.
