typically retaillers sell their certified diamonds for less than their appraisal value--why, because it makes customers think they're getting a great deal. i used to work at kay jewelers and all of the certified diamonds there were about $500-$3000 less than the appraised value.

some things to consider:

also, i don't think IGI is as highly regarded as GIA-GIA is more modest in its appraisals and gradings of diamonds.

also--i don't have a costco where i live, but do they offer a lifetime guarentee on the gold and the diamond itself? meaning, if your diamond falls out of your ring, are you SOL or are you protected. stores like kays guarentee the diamond for life. also a tip, if you do decide to go w/ Kay, or Belden (sister store, same stuff) you can get up to 10% off of a certified diamond, 25% off regular price of any other diamond. they don't advertise, so ask for a better deal.

good luck!
