Diamond jewelry: Good gift or just something shiny?
egn18s asked:
Have you ever stepped back and thought about it? People spend thousands of dollars of their hard earned money for something that just sits there on a woman’s neck/finger/wrist and looks shiny. It’s really one of the most impractical things to spend money on. Especially when a husband gives his wife expensive jewelry because, being married, his money is her money. So giving your wife expensive jewelry is like saying, “Look honey, I just spent a ton of our money on something that can hang around your neck and not do anything. But it’s really shiny.”

Diamonds are trash because they create and support modern slavery in Africa.
I guess for other types of jewelry, it would depend on your budget and purpose for offering/buying it.
Seems to me that if you don’t want to offer her jewels, then don’t. But always remember that as you said, if you are married and she wants to offer them to herself “his money is her money”
My solution: actually figure out things like financial priorities (and other things like child rearing, goals, ideas about friendships outside marriage, etc) BEFORE you marry. Then, you’d end up with someone who believes pretty much what you do on the big points. Its the best way to avoid issues related to finances.
After all, financal differences is listed as the top reason people end up divorced.
