Is Jared a good place to buy jewelry?

diamond jewelry
Cheery_Chica asked:

Is their stuff really high quality? I know many places have just simple boring diamond jewelry and its not high grade, they have a lot of 1ct diamonds for only like 1000 bucks, which is cheap for that size. Does Jared have high quality diamonds and aren’t too flawed or anything?

Depends on your budget. You should determine what you can afford. Obviously, you buy higher quality diamonds, but if you can’t afford it; jared offers a good alternative

Yes, they have higher quality stuff. But in general, here is what you should look for if you are looking for a higher quality diamond in any store:

    The 4 C’s:

    1. Clarity (flaws)

The average diamond is rated as or I1 or I2 which means Obvious inclusions. Somewhat easy to locate with the unaided eye. This diamond is ok quality and is what most stores have in stock. It is pretty rare to find a flawless diamond, however a good quality you should look for is: VS1, VS2, VVS1, VVS2. There are inclusions, but you wont see them. The best is IF and F, but they are rare and super expensive.

    2. Color

This is how the color scale works for diamonds:

    DEF GHI Colorless (White)

    JKL Near Colorless (White)

    M Faint Yellow

    N,O,P,Q,R Very Light Yellow

    S,T,U,V,W,X,Y,Z Light Yellow

You will want DEF or GHI colorless for a high quality light reflecting diamond. Most stores carry an average JKL or M. The DEF GHI is carried but expensive, especially in bigger diamonds, as colorless diamonds are harder to find in bigger sizes.

    3. Cut

The traditional round cut diamond comes with the best quality and clarity. Other cuts are getting more and more popular however. There are round, princess (square), oval, marquis (diamond-oval shaped),

    4. Carat

The carat is the weight/size of the diamond. The average diamonds people buy are about 1/3 to 1/2 carat. You mentioned a 1ct diamond, the reason that you see some of them for only 1000 bucks is b/c of the low grade of the diamond. If you want a higher quality 1ct with the recommended cut, clarity, and color I mentioned, it would cost around 8,000 to 13,000 bucks depending also on the metal you get and the size/shape, etc.

One more thing, look for a diamond that is GIA Certified.

    Hope this helped!!!!!!
