It's all about what you can afford. 1/4 carat is kinda small, and buying it on line and not looking at it first can be very risky. It would be nice if you kknew the color, cut and clarity of it (these are the three things to look for in a diamond) You can buy a three carat diamond for $1000.00 and it will have many major flaws in it. You need to look at it with a microscope. Hope this helps you.

Go to a jewelry store and look at the sizes of carat weights to get an idea of the ring you are looking at.

I wouldn't suggest buying a diamond online. Diamonds are a big purchase and with an online retailer you never know what you are getting. It could be really flawed, different from the picture, or not a diamond at all.

Unless it is from a respected jeweler's online site, I wouldn't buy online.
